Hydraulic cylinders, often simply called "cylinders," are essential parts of hydraulic systems. They act as the "muscles" that make things move, turning hydraulic power into mechanical force. While components like pumps, valves, and filters support the system, cylinders are the final executors that actually do the work in machinery. That's why choosing the right hydraulic cylinder is crucial for any business.
When picking a hydraulic cylinder, people usually consider its bore diameter, stroke length, operating pressure, and mounting style. But there are two more important factors to keep in mind:
1. Speed and Impact Control:If a cylinder moves quickly under load, you need one with a built-in cushioning mechanism. This helps reduce the shock when the piston reaches the end of its stroke, protecting the equipment. For extremely high speeds, it's better to add an external speed control valve on top of the cushioning feature. This way, you can control the piston's speed precisely and keep the system running smoothly.
2. Fluid and Seal Compatibility:Not all hydraulic fluids are the same, and neither are seals. Different fluids-like mineral oil, synthetic oil, or water-based fluids-require specific seal materials. For example, NBR seals work well with mineral oil, while FKM seals are better for high-temperature or chemically aggressive synthetic oils. Always choose seals that match your chosen hydraulic fluid. This prevents leaks and extends the cylinder's lifespan.
